Mackay Fishing Locations

Bucasia and Eimeo

This is a very popular area for boaties and land based fishos for the simple reason it is so accessible. Bait is within easy reach and some great catches can be taken.

Boat ramps located at Bucasia and Eimeo are best approached from about half tide to three quarter tide up depending on the tide heights. Yabbies can be pumped around the Bucasia ramp at low tide and are arguably the most popular bait for fishing from the beach.

Herring can be cast netted from around the mangroves at high tide and are excellent for pinning lightly with a fine gauge 4/0 and let drift or very lightly weighted in the current. The channel marker near the Eimeo ramp attracts a number of fishos on lower tides and species such as salmon and barramundi are caught from this area at times.

Bucasia

A falling tide reveals sandbars & gutters that can hold
whiting & flathead.

Just offshore a number of shallow reefs are home to some good blueys that are best approached with a sturdy handline. Mackerel also frequent the area and can be taken by letting a ganged pilchard waft in the current or by trolling some flashy metal slices around the washes.

Tip > Plenty of fishing folk put in the hard yards for hours and as soon as the sun starts to slip away so does their desire to continue. Just around sunset in this area is very productive given good tides and pleasant weather.
