A good concrete ramp is located at Sarina Inlet and provides access for those heading to Plane Creek or out the front to target fish along the headlands. Plane Creek turns up a few surprises through the warmer months and barramundi and jack feature in the local catches.

Crabbing is also popular but watch the tides to ensure your pots aren’t out of the water as the tide recedes. As the tide falls hunting around the sand flats is a good way to troll up a flathead. Use small tight wobbling lures that run less than two metres and try lures coloured pink or fluoro green. Up the creek is well protected but keep an eye on the wind during your trip.
If the Sou’ Easterly blows up you can have a bit of a bumpy ride back to the ramp. Out the front the rocky headlands produce much the same as other similar features throughout the region. Blueys are always a popular target in these regions for both their pulling power and edibility.

You’ll also find trevally and school (doggy) mackerel in the area at certain times. Larger tides around the new and full moon are often more suitable for these species. Smaller tides will make it easier to fish the rocks.
TIP > Avoid travelling between spots during the period of a tide change. This change in flow is often all that’s needed to bring fish on the chew.
Get There > Head South to Sarina and turn off to Sarina Beach. Will take about 45mins from Mackay.
