Some great trips were experienced throughout 2007 and to kick off the New Year we thought we’d have a quick look back at some of the fantastic captures taken aboard Reefari Charters. Captain Greg Reynolds has kindly offered to continue these updates on a regular basis so check back every now and then to see what kind of action is taking place in the waters off Mackay.
Reefari enjoyed some excellent conditions at Southhampton and some equally excellent fishing. Chris Wall and his mates picked up some beaut GT’s weighing 21kg and 16kg. One of these fish was taken while trolling and was hooked in the pectoral fin turning an already formidable task into an enduring tug of war. The other was taken on a popper cast onto the reef edge on 15kilo line. The battle lasted over 30mins.

The boys also found some shoaly ground and the evening fishing in this area turned up a good catch of Spangled Emperor averaging 4 – 5 kg.
This was described as “a mad hour of truly fantastic fishing action”.
Stevens Reef has been kind to the Reefari Crew and some great fish have been captured from the area.
A midweek charter enabled Richard Briggs his biggest fish ever, a solid 18kg Spanish Mackerel.

At one stage the weather was so perfect Reefari managed 3 charters in 4 days to this magic region.
Peter Crowley and crew took advantage of the superb conditions and picked up some nice trout.
Ruth Crowley finished off the day with a solid Flowerly Cod and a nice 15 kilo
Spanish mackerel was taken on a live stripey.

Some good times were also had in a bit closer around 3 Rocks and the Shipping Channel. Some nice Red Emperor to 7.5kilos but suffered at the hands of hungry sharks. Check out the bite mark on the back.

The sharks weren’t fussy as this shortened Spanish mackerel shows. It would have gone 18 kilos but only managed 15 with the clipping.
Nannygai were also on the chew and a beaut example was taken by Jacq.

The beautiful Blue Spot Trout held by Peter Lister went 14 kilos and was taken while deep water jigging. A great capture using the latest techniques.

There was some good reef fishing enjoyed just before Xmas so everyone is looking forward to the cruel winds easing up so they can get back out doing what they enjoy best.
